Mai Ndombe REDD+ Forest Protection
Protecting forest from industrial logging, unsustainable fuel wood extraction and slash/burn farming in western DRC
This project is part of the Shearwater Group Zero Carbon Initiative – read more about it here.
About the project
The Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project, located in western Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), protects 248,956 hectares of forest from industrial logging, unsustainable fuel wood extraction, and slash and burn agriculture. Carbon validation is undertaken by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and major socio-economic co-benefits ensured by the Climate, Community
and Biodiversity (CCB) standard. This project is both additional (it would not have happened without the carbon credit revenues that make the project financially attractive for investors) and permanent (carbon already captured, as well as carbon
captured in the future, will remain sequestered thanks to the protection of this ecosystem).
